In June 2023, Thimzy Empowerment Initiative, aimed to promote peace and advocate against violence through Creative Art and Technical Skills in Sierra Leone. The initiative kicked off in June 2023, with the first Peace Creative Art and Technical Skills Competition for Senior Secondary School Students, bringing together participants from 10 schools and over 700 spectators.
The event was graced by various stakeholders within the youth community in the country, including the Commissioner of Youth, Ngolo Katta, the Founder and Executive Director of Global Youth Network for Empowerment and Development, Musa Khalil Koroma, Hon. Abdul Sulieman Marray Conteh, Western Urban and Chairman Legislative Committee Parliament, several youth advocates, musicians, poets, and drama groups.
Undoubtedly, the event served as an initiator for peace and a platform for youth empowerment during the 2023 election processes and established a lasting bond of love amongst the participatory schools. The winners of the first runner-up, second, and third categories were awarded cash prizes, trophies, school materials, and certificates.
The media was also present, with SLBC, Freedom Radio, and Redeema Radio covering the event. Overall, the Thimzy Empowerment Initiative proved to be a successful and impactful event, driving positive change in the youth community of Sierra Leone.
